What's Inside the Kit
- 500g Njavara-style red rice (same rice as our standalone Navara Rice, now bundled in)
- Hand-blended herbal powder — over 20 ingredients including Chukku (dry ginger), Kurumulagu (black pepper), Thippali (long pepper), Elathari (cardamom), Jathipathri (mace), Varattu Manjal (roasted turmeric), Amukkuram Veru (ashwagandha), Uluva (fenugreek), Nellikka (amla), Kadukka (haritaki), and more — the full Trikatu, Triphala, and supporting herb groups used in traditional Karkidaka Chikitsa
- Rock salt (Induppu) sachet
- Step-by-step preparation card
Not included — add fresh at home:
- Coconut milk (200ml per serving — fresh extraction recommended)
- Palm jaggery, ghee, shallots (optional, for tempering, to taste)
Most kits in the market only include the herb powder or only the rice — ours includes both, so you don't have to source Njavara separately.
What is Karkidaka Kanji Koottu?
Karkidaka Kanji Koottu — also called Oushadha Kanji Kit or Marunnu Kanji Kit — is the traditional Malabar preparation eaten every morning through the Malayalam month of Karkidakam (mid-July to mid-August) to rekindle digestion and rebuild monsoon immunity. This kit gives you everything except coconut milk: 500g Njavara-style rice and a 20+ herb powder blend, ready to cook fresh every morning for your 7, 14, 21, or 28-day course.
Why this kit, and why now
Karkidakam 2026 runs July 17 to August 16. Ayurveda holds that monsoon weakens digestive fire (Agni) and depletes immunity (Ojas) — this porridge is built to restore both. The tradition is over a thousand years old, documented in the Ashtangahridayam (Sutrasthana, Ch. 3), and modern peer-reviewed research (IJCRT 2023, JAIMS 2020) confirms the digestive and immunity benefits of the herb groups used.
How to use it
- Wash 100g of the included rice (half the 500g pack per cooking cycle, roughly 5 servings).
- Add 10g of the herbal powder per serving to the rice while cooking, with 1 litre water.
- Simmer 35–40 minutes (or 6–7 whistles in a pressure cooker) until thick.
- Add fresh coconut milk and a pinch of the included rock salt. Simmer 2–3 minutes more — don't boil hard after adding coconut milk.
- Serve warm, on an empty stomach, between 6–8 AM.

How many days should I have Karkidaka Kanji?
Minimum 7 days. Best results at 14, 21, or 28 days — always in complete multiples of 7.
Why is Njavara rice used in this kit?

Can children have Karkidaka Kanji?
Yes, above 5 years, with a gentler version — less spice, more coconut milk and jaggery. Consult a paediatric Ayurvedic physician.
What should I avoid while taking Karkidaka Kanji (Pathyam)?
